I wrote my first work memo. It was hastily done and I was not very proud of it. For some reason David wanted me to sum up all the people I have called so far in an Excel file. It was not formal at all, there was no official style and I printed a copy out and placed it on his keyboard when i left.

My initial takes on this company is that there are a number of people who do nothing. With around ten programmers working almost full-time there has to be about five of them that are worthless. There is no marketing really at all- it seems that the marketers dont make any press releases or anything like that. So there are no new contacts or prospects that come to us. We have to find them via cold calls. This is the worst way to get clients IMHO. There is a CEO who constantly wants to "validate" the market which mean he thinks about who wants our product. He should just start selling it IMHO and go full bore with a marketing program that he launches. I have this deep down concieded notion that if in control of this company I could change it all.

But i feel unmotivated really to do anything at all. Why? I am paid ten dollars and hour to do the dirty work- cold call companies. My commisions are not based on revenue at all- IMHO i should get a percentage of any deals I get. But no. I get a meger 20-30 dollars a demo which is a worthless metric. I ignore it and go straight for the sale, I think that if I get a sale I can negotiate for actual commision on it with a strong argument.

For Gnostic Labs I feel that I am undervalued. Mainly this is because I havent done much in a while. This is something I am changing with a new work ethic and an actual assignment- it had been quite ambigous as it was. I saw the huge ass list of things that need to be accomplished, I can now start tackling some of them. Now that I got started on the damage compotent model, I want to start doing that. That should be cool. In conjuction I should handle the marketing aspects. This should be done with a clear-cut schedule that I give to the PDT team for evaluation and then implementation. Almost all of this work can be offloaded to them. That way the community will grow somewhat independently while we focus efforts on the gameplay demo.
