I picked up a book yesterday called "Think and Grow Rich". At a glance it is a book about getting wealthy, a how-to guide. WIth a closer inspection you find it is much more- it is a method for focusing your thoughts so that they can become material. It is number of steps that anyone can take to improve any aspect of their life and to get what they want. The first couple of chapters were expecially enlightening, as Nepolean Hill made many references to stories.
Some quotes I found:
"He stood before me like an ordinary tramp, but there was something in the expression of his face which conveyed the impression that he was determined to get what he had come after. I had learned, from years of experience with men, that when a man really desires a thing so deeply that he is willing to stake his entire future on a single turn of the wheel in order to get it, he is sure to win. I gave him the opportunity he asked for, becuase I saw he had made up his mind to stand by until he succeeded. Subsequent events proved that no mistake was made"
- Thomas Edison about Edwin Barnes, a man with an idea who traded all of his possesions for a train ticket to Thomas Edison's town so he could work with Edison, even though they had never met. He soon became Edison's business partner.
"No one is ever defeated, until they accept defeat as reality."
-Napolean Hill, Think and Grow Rich
Even though this book is 43 years old, it still has invaluable advice about turning thoughts into reality, which is a subject that many teachers have taught over the years but few understand. Andrew Carnigie, the man who made millions from nothing is the father of this method, and taught it to Napolean Hill who attempted to transcribe it into this book.
