Well our country is officially at war now.

I knew a while ago, when CNN was running "counting to Iraq" news stories that it was only a matter of time before the mobs of us voters decide that war, after all, is a great idea.

I was given particular insight into the workings of the Government after Jake explained the power of oration. As it turns out, even in Greek times, everyone knew that if everyone in the mob (populace) voted, then he who controlled the mob controlled the vote. Orators could therefore sway the vote in either direction, just by giving a speech to enough of the populace.

Is it any wonder why Hitler installed the frist nation wide TV broadcasting network? Even though the US invented TV, Hitler was the first to actually use it. And he used it because it made him the orator on an entirely different scale- he could talk to millions of people at the same time while rolling footage of his troops, capturing his posture and facial expresions, etc. Hitler's power lied in his oratory ability- he could control the mob.

Who controls the mob now? Why the media. I knew that once the propaganda started to roll, that it was only a matter of time before the voting mob (the senior citizens) decided that war was a good idea after all. Bush then had to act on what the voting mob wanted, and so war ensued.

While there are many alternative motives for the war that people talk about, the best I have heard to date relates to the defense contracting industry. If you are a defense company making some new weapon, no matter how many dummy military units you destroy with your weapons the government is not going to give you a contract. It doesn't matter if you have the next weapon that is going to completly change warfare- if it hasn't been tested in combat, the government doesn't want to buy it.

So warring with Iraq allows us a "real" combat situation where all the defenes comapnies can test out their products in a live combat situation to prove that their tech can be trusted. Once the technology is trusted, then it can be purchased in large numbers.

On a side note, it was interesting to listen to Tony Bliar's speech that he gave the night the war started. What a powerful speech!
