Have you ever lived in the living room for over a year? Let me tell you about it, because I have.

First off, if you value privacy at all, don't do it. You are going to have to change everyday in the living room, with windows everywhere that are too difficult to close and with doors that may or may not be open to your roomates rooms. You have to be comfortable with yourself, you know- let it all hang out. Don't let the blank stares get you down.

Do you like being the first one awake and the last one to go to bed? Well deal with it, because there is no way in hell that you are going to get sleep. One roomate is up until 4am, and of course has the door open with his light on. This means you can't sleep. Then the other roomate wakes up at 8 to go to work by making a shake in the kitchen, walking past you multiple times, turning on the facet, taking a shower and somtimes passing gas really close to you.

Then you have the cleaning problem, as everyone is always supposed to clean up their own room. But the living room is somewhat community property... and so you end up cleaning up all the random messes that people leave- a sock on the floor, a left over beer bottle, a smelly pair of underpants. Its not much, but it starts to add up every once and a while.

So how long can you go on like this? You can tell yourself that you are young, this is temporary, only a college thing infact and that everyone else is doing it here in Santa Barbara because rent is ridiculous. But you are only kidding yourself.

Recently the real kicker hit me- now there is another person moving into our place... and they want him to sleep with me! Holy shit, it gets better and better. Now not only do I sleep in the living room, but I have a freakin' roomate.

Its time to find a new place, and pronto.
