8/01/2003 08:05:15 PM|||Travis||| Well my sugars slowly rose up to 300 over the course of the day, as I forgot to bring my insulin to work. All I could do is sit by and watch as it slowly went up to from 150 to 225 to 298, and then finally around 4 it went down to 225 again (the long acting Lantus must have finally got it). Not like I ate anything starchy either- wierd. It seems like the mornings are when it starts to rise, and then it slowly starts to drop in the late afternoons. I should eat smaller breakfasts, with veggies only- the eggs and cheese this morning didn't digest to well (judging by my sugar levels).
When I got home I promptly infused 7 units of humolog into my stomach fat, which is now bringing me down to 125, which is perfect for dinner. My chicken salad is going to be delicious :)
It seems like the proper way to hanle diabetes is not to modify your insulin regime to suit your dietary needs, it is to completely alter your diet. I know that my father, very early on, told me that I could eat whatever I wanted, and could use the insulin to compensate. This leds to the roller coaster effect that I was on for years- to much insulin, then too much food. My sugar was constantly changing in my blood stream like stock price. That is what is hard to control and you want to prohibit at all costs- fast flucuations.
So the proper way to treat diabetes is to first drasitcally change the diet. Then you can use small amounts of insulin to coax your sugars around, never pulling them full force with large doses as that is very detrimental to your health. Always think for a mintute (at least) before you take a shot, as it will have consequences on down the road.|||105979351521380028|||
