I am setting out to write a "Credo" in this days passage. Credo is simply Latin for "I believe" and is related to Creed. Why is this important?
Because a book told me I should write it down. And since I am insane, what the hell I figure. Might as well give it a shot.
As I develop my talents as a leader, which I do on a daily basis, one important step is to have your inner voice. When you speak in this voice, it is yours, and it has power. People recognize this voice... but it is more than a voice. It is a philosophy, it is a set of beliefs, it is the reason why this people should follow you, rather than simply because you are labeled the manager, general, or whatnot.
The book says to think about it like this- you are about to go on vacation and you want your company to keep running in your absense. So what do you is right down this short passage that lets them understand the values of the company, and hopefully follow through with things while you are gone.
Here is their example from a fictional CEO:
"In my abscence please work towards our command end. Share ideas, thoughts and beliefs. Prioritize what must be done and act. Prioritize what is important and enjoy. Remember, we are in this together; win together and fail together. Applaud your collegues when they succeed and uplift them when they don't. Alwways act and react with honesty, dedication and conviction. Also, look beyond what you can see and see the beyond. Congratulations on what is sure to be a wondrous journey for us all."
What a load of crap! This sounds like typical manager speak. "work towards our common end" and such stuff. There are some interesting nuggets in there- Look beyond what you can see and see the beyond. Although that is a bit cryptic, I think something like this has more religous foundations than anything else.
For my Credo I am going to modify the scenario. Rather than me (the manager) being on vacation, lets say that I am going to die. And in one passage, I need to put down my deepest philoshopy of life. Here it goes, although I imagine this will become a work in progress.
Walk the Earth with Gnos about the true nature of yourself; you are God. We, the few that have banded together in this company, are great. Our souls our old, our ideals are grandoise, and everything we do apsires to greatness. Let us not fritter away our brief time here on Earth, but rather work hard to plant the seed of our existence that will grow strong, past the death and decay of our weak material bodies. Let us mar the Earth with our greatness. Let us build empires that stand the test of time- Pyramids larger than mountains. Let us do this so that we may never be forgotten amognst the cold and timid who died afraid to dare, and to dare greatly. Let us do this so that parts of us can live forever.
Wow. Thats pretty powerful. It needs a little work, but it has that spark.... that magical rap.
Time for a small tanget.
While doing laundry yesterday, a bum observed me putting my clothes in the dryer. This is a smart bum. First off, he remains clean because he can clean his clothes occasionally when someone accidently puts in quarters into a machine and doesn't use it. So he is a clean bum.
Secondly, he has a couch and a TV in the laundry place. Amazingly, he just sits there all day laughing at the TV and shooting the breeze. Occasionally he goes outside and soaks up the rays. There is a spot of lawn that he likes to lay in with his little black dog.
Thirdly, people have change. Always, no questions asked. All this bum has to do is make you laugh, and you toss him a quarter. When you think about it, this is good money for this bum.
At anyrate, I am doing my laundry and my cup falls off the counter. I think nothing off it, but the bum starts saying something to me, about how I have the "touch". I look down, and the cup has landed right side up. Strange.
The bum then wants the cup, for luck purposes and then starts to go into his concept of the "magic rap." He says that those that have the rap can become massive lawyers in New York, where he lived for a while. I translated this rap concept in the ability for you to get people to believe you, or to get people to want to believe you. This power, is extremely valuable. His application involved a drug dealer from New York and a jurry. But the magic of rap is more than that. And as this bum pointed out- I have the gift of rap.
The question is what I am going to do with it.|||106392879008967328|||
