I believe there is something magical in these black beans that I buy from the store marked "coffee". What does it do? Well it makes me do a little magical dance, and I am no longer tired at all.
Interesting string of events last night, leading from socializing in our apartment and then in the hotub. Jake is way into his economic/political debate mood right now, so it is hard to steer the conversation away from this topic into other waters. Indeed it was interesting, but dragged after the first hour or so, and by 12:30 people were no longer debating becuase it was getting tiresome. No matter, Jake kept laying out the points (which are great in my mind).
I still like the bit about social secruity. This is democracy at work. First you have to cutt through the political bullshit, aka, what the politicians tell you a program is for and look at what the program does, objectively. Does social security give money to poor people? No, just old people. At least poor old people? No, income is not a factor, it is determined soley by age. Rich old people (and indeed, most wealthy people are old... think about it) still get their social security check just like everyone else.
In reality, I see social security as a program to reward a large voting block of people, the old people. Since they vote in such large numbers, it makes sense to give them money through the guise of "social security" to appease them and get them to vote for you.
Democracy is a combination of publicity stunts (go Arnold) and demographics. Give the people who vote in large numbers what they want, and you will win elections.
If only 100% of people of my age voted, then we would have some clout. Maybe I could get enough money to travel around the world before I turn wrinkly and old.
Fat chance.|||107160537982366174|||
