Yay, thanks Blogger! Now we finally have some of the features that other online blog type sites have, such as comments. Some of my friends wanted this before, now it is up and running.
So whats new.... Jake and Jay ripped into me last night, well not really, but they asked if we had any meetings for e3 on Wednesday and I said no, very quietly. So in a complete 180 degree turnaround today I went ahead and called just about every business card that I have in my big fat stack of cards that has developed over the years. I think there were about 20 emails and 10 phone calls. Out of that, four meetings have popped up, two that are probably worth something and the other two are more of informal, "hey lets get a beer" kind of meetings.
So we will see. No publisher meetings, but then again, I don't really like publishers. I want some debt/equity type of financing for Eschaton, not some sort of publishing deal where some company like EA takes 90% of game sales for an advance that barely keeps the lights on and your belly full of mac and cheese. Publishers are good, but if I am going to bootstrap, I want to retain the earnings of Eschaton. Mabye we can split things 50/50 with a publisher, but then we would have to have the project completed. But that is fine as well. Any way of doing it is better than the standard pub deal.
What else is new... plans are being finalized to go to Montana this summer. Yes that is right, the tour is going to kick off in mid June when I get in my old truck and head North. First I will stop in SLO to visit the Paps and my sister, who will be there for my Dad's b-day. Then I will continue onward to San Fransisco to get Yono who will be done with Berkeley and ready to move back to Montana which me and my truck will help him with. Then we will hit the road... probably go up along the coast into Oregon, then cut across somewhere, possibly along the big river there that flows into Portland. What is the name of that thing? All I remember is that there is some sweet wind currents that flow through there and lots of great windsurfing.
Jake is going to have to keep the game company running down here, and I will be sure to leave finances in a stable condition. It seems like we should be OK after I rent out one of our rooms in the apartment. Then all that is left is rent for one small room, which isn't too bad. And I can get the security deposit from the new tennant, whoever we find, and use that to finance Gnostic further. God I like being a slum lord. Lets just hope that Willow Springs doesn't find out what I am doing or else they will evict us ;(
So what will I be doing up in Montana? That is right, real estate. My best friend and I plan on buying a house and rehabbing it from top to bottom. The idea is to find a decent house and then make it kick some ass- a new paint job, new doors, windows, etc and then resell it at a higher price. Lots of people do this kind of thing here in CA, but I suspect that there isn't much competition in a place like Missoula, Montana. So I will come in like a storm and try to get into as many properties as I can. Buy em, fix em and then sell or rent them. Renting would be fine if I could find a deal. Having a house deed is a great thing to have, and could even let me pull more money out for the game project.
