Sleepless in SB

A strange feeling came over me this afternoon in Starbucks. I was looking at a board short clad UCSB specimen who was giggling with a short blond girl when a feeling of superiority came over me. It was as if I was looking down at his sandals and thinking to myself how I used to be that, but now am moving on. And then I looked around my little California college town, with the bikinis, the flip flops,  late night beer drinking games, the cheap liquor and the parties…. it hit me hard all of the sudden because it is over. It is like I am stepping off an amusement ride and shouting Again! Again! But its closing down for the night.

I haven’t slept well in nights. Wednesday night I was in Bakersfield and couldn’t sleep worth a damn, even though I was taking the CA real estate test at 8AM the following morning. At 2AM I finally jumped out of bed and paced back and forth for about an hour in my run down hotel room, calculator in hand, scheming on a way to refinance my massive amounts of debt to save my shirt. Something hit me hard, and I think it is going to work out just great.

Jumping up into commercial real estate is a trip. It seems to be a position for opulent fellows which makes for interesting company. The secretary got me all worried over the phone when she pointed out that I need a suit… a suit? It was not like I was wearing a god damn t-shirt to the interview… I had on slacks, my awesome blue shirt and a matching tie.. which then had me question just what the hell a suit consists of. Perhaps all I am missing is the jacket. But I feel like I am breaking into a different culture of old money sort of conservatism…. nothing like the game industry that is dominated by geeks walking around in funny t-shirts with pizza stains on them. This is the real “professional” sort of deal. Well I have a meeting with the big time professor uber broker next Friday. I am getting my hair cut conservative style, how exactly though I am not sure. Perhaps I should bring in a picture of george bush to my stylist and say- that! Or maybe I should try and immitate the patented Donald Trump fold-over technique. My stylist could do anything…

Where the hell should one get a suit without spending too much? Comments welcome…
