Wow, more attack of the robots
It is pretty well known I have a knack for liking things that are robotic and destructive. Having been a model airplane enthusiast for years I have always wondered when they were going to strap weapons on those things and start robot wars. It looks like that time is approaching.
While I had found one article about the “Auto-Copter Gunship” which is where an American company strapped a military shot gun onto a AI controlled flying helicopter, I always wondered what the big boys were working on in the same time. It looks like I finally found something. Its the BattleHog 100X. Yep, you heard me.
And what a bizarre name that is for a 17ft wide UAV that weighs in at a hefty 3,200lbs with around a 300lb arsenal. That is enough for two hellfire missles and a minigun. Not bad BattleHog 100X, not bad at all.
This UAV is no pie in the sky either, the Battlehog 100X is actually flying already and going into production. Soon, it will show up to a battlefield near you if you are lucky. Here is a really cheesy picture of the BattleHog 100X. Pretty neat huh?
Oh and it cruses at about 180 knots for 8hrs or so and can land and take off verticly, fly through forests autonomously, complete missions without ground control and can even compensate for weather- all while still being aple to send out air traffic commands via satalite link so as not to run into any “real” airplanes. Plus it has the full array of goodies in terms of sensors- infrared, radar and the visible spectrum are all covered.
The mini-gun has to be one of the better additions because the Prediator drone already can do the Hellfire missile thing (which by the way was a point of content on the 9/11 docu-drama that was on last night).
I could only imagine three of these things coming out of the sky at 200 + knots in a full speed dive with missiles and mini-guns blaring with infrared guided accuracy at anything emmiting a heat signiture. Robo-wars here we come indeed.

One Comment so far ...
OK I fixed the broken link about the Battlehog 100x. Look at the flight global page and enjoy.
